Writing Your Vows

26/08/2025

There are generally three types of Wedding Vows:

1.  Write Your Own

2. Repeat After Me

3. Respond with "I Do"

If you love words and their meaning I recommend you write your own.  If you feel this is too much you can repeat the vows after me.  Some people are very nervous speaking in public so they go for the "I do" response vows.  Whatever you choose is right for you!

When writing your own vows, think about them being a promise to each other that will last your lifetime together.  In tough times, when life throws you a few lemons, you can re-read your vows while you make lemonade together!  You might want to read them again for a special anniversary or update them as the years go by.

My advice is to write your vows from the heart.  Think about why you love this person so much, your journey so far, the lessons you've learnt from them and the times they've brought you joy and happiness. What promises would you like to make them for your successful future life together?  What can you promise them so that they can grow in strength as they feel your love, support and commitment?

Don't forget to bring your vows to the ceremony!!  Either put in your suit pocket or give to your Bestman, Made of Honour or Celebrant.
