Writing Your Vows

When it comes to wedding vows, there are generally three options:

1.  Write Your Own

2. Repeat After Me

3. Respond with "I Do"

If you love words and their meaning, I recommend writing your own. If that feels like too much, repeating vows after the officiant works beautifully. And if public speaking makes you nervous, the simple "I do" response vows are perfectly fine. Whatever you choose, it's the right choice for you!

When writing your own vows, think of them as a promise to each other that will last a lifetime. In tough times—when life hands you a few lemons—you can revisit your vows as you make lemonade together. You might even read them again on a special anniversary or update them as the years go by.

My advice: write from the heart. Reflect on why you love this person, the journey you've shared, the lessons you've learned from them, and the moments that have brought joy and happiness. Consider the promises you want to make for your future together. What can you pledge to help your partner grow in strength, feeling your love, support, and commitment?

And a practical tip—don't forget your vows on the big day! Keep them in your suit pocket, or hand them to your Best Man, Maid of Honour, or celebrant so you can focus on the words rather than remembering them.
